What's
in a name. We all have our little idiosyncrasies
and I will admit the movie "Casablanca" has been mine.
I fell in love with the movie years ago in my early twenties
because of the many things it symbolized. The spirit of loyalty
to country, a cause and also to a woman you love. If you have not seen the movie you really should. It is a classic
in the
purist sense of the word and has so many messages on so many
levels.
The
La Belle Aurore There is a wonderful
scene in the movie where Rick (Humphrey Bogart) is experiencing
a flashback to his days with Ilsa (Ingrid Bergman) in Paris. It's
just before the German invasion and they are in love. They have
dinner at a restaurant in Paris and the camera passes across the
window pain of the restaurant at night. The moon is shining and
casts a shadow across the floor spelling the name of the restaurant--The
La Belle Aurore. It means "beautiful dawn" and is the
name on the stern of my Norsea 27. Please, do me a favor. Buy a
bottle of wine and curl up on the couch with the one you love
and a copy of Casablanca in the VCR. I promise, it will be an
evening to remember.
